The majority of our multi-week courses are delivered as weekly sessions (class periods). Beginning, introductory, and intermediate courses are sequentially structured to develop students step-by-step, building on fundamental concepts, techniques, and skills. It is imperative that students not fall behind in attendance or doing the exercises and homework.
I do not merely teach how to draw “things”. I teach how to properly “see” and critically analyze what is seen. I teach the fundamentals and skills necessary to achieve credible results when trying to draw “things”.
Learning to draw is similar to learning piano. If a drawing or music instructor knows the basic exercises (scales) and fundamentals (theory) and the student will practice, basic proficiency can be attained very quickly. Drawing engages both sides of the brain. The practice thereof facilitates strong visual thinking skills. Like reading good fiction where the reader has to imagine the setting, the colors, the weather, the smells, and the clothing and facial expressions, drawing stimulates the same creative forces in the human mind. TV and movies rob the child by creating everything for the passive viewer, thus, short-circuiting the experience.
PREREQUISITES AND ASSESSMENTS:
Some courses have prerequisites before starting. This is to keep the instruction on schedule and helps make sure that students have the best chance of success in the intermediate and advanced courses. Prior to registering a student, the instructor can perform a simple, short assessment of a student’s readiness by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and a phone conversation (916.704.3262).
CLASS SIZE LIMITATIONS:
Class sizes are limited by the location classroom size. Therefore, at times we have to turn away a student or two or start another course at another time and/or location. If there are only one or two students enrolled in a class, we may ask that those students consider moving to the same course if offered on another day/time.
Once the maximum number of students have registered for a class, we close registration and turn away other candidates for that class. Therefore, our policy is that proper notice of cancellation must be given by email (email@example.com) no later than ten (10) days prior to the first week of class. If proper notice is not given and we were not able to enroll another student we turned away, the cancelling student's school will be invoiced for the full semester.
DROP OUT & CREDIT POLICY:
At times, students have extenuating circumstances that require the student to drop out of a course. The student's school will still be invoiced for the full semester's tuition. However, the student may apply the tuition credit for the same course the next semester it is offered.
At times, students may miss a class session. In order to not have students fall behind and/or require the instructor to re-teach a previous week’s lesson during the current one, the instructor will post the video demonstration, the PowerPoint lecture, the class exercises, and the homework guidelines on BrekkeArt.com (or by email) of the missed session. The student must email (firstname.lastname@example.org) progress to the instructor for review and critique. At times, a phone meeting is necessary.
CHARTER SCHOOL PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
Siblings of students are not allowed in classrooms or on some properties. Students should arrive at the classroom 15 minutes before start time and be retrieved no later than 15 minutes after the end of session.
Some schools require that a parent remain in the classroom during instruction. If your student is enrolled in one of these schools and you want to leave the classroom, you will need to give the instructor a waiver to your school’s rule.
